We are Melissa and Grahame and along with our two gorgeous sons we own and operate our small family business SilverBox. We’re a regular family who loves spending time together outdoors experiencing the very best that Mother Nature has to offer. We believe that it’s our responsibility to care for our environment so that it can nourish us and our families for generations to come. Several years ago we made a commitment to begin our family’s journey towards a more sustainable lifestyle. One decision that we made was to phase out plastic and other nasties from our home.  Another area of sustainability that became a focus for us was  eating more wholefoods that are organic in origin and preparing as many things as possible from scratch. Food choices are made multiple times every single day so it’s an area that can have a big impact on your life and the environment at the same time! 

The decision to ditch plastic ultimately led us to having to replace the boys’ lunchboxes because they had cracked and broken. We started searching for a more sustainable option and settled on stainless steel however we very quickly discovered that there was no stainless steel container on the market that ticked all our boxes. So Grahame designed one!

There were four main targets that we thought needed to be reached in the design. It needed to be affordable for families, easy for children to open and close and manage independently, leakproof and be able to fit efficiently into the dishwasher. He was able to tick all of these boxes and we are so excited to be able to bring this product to families. The best part, we think, is the fact that it’s such a durable and timeless product – one lunchbox can last a whole lifetime!

Because Australia is a hot country, especially in summer, food safety is important so Grahame also designed an insulated bag in which to keep the SilverBox, along with an icepack, for those warm days when food needs to be kept cool. The best part of this bag is that it is fully machine washable!
